Art Deco and the year 1936 married with the Homer Laughlin Company and produced the vivacious Fiestaware dinnerware line. Based on the Mexican Fiesta, the company’s motto was, “The Dinnerware that turns your table into a Celebration!” People have been celebrating the Fiestaware line for over 70 years. The Fiestaware line consisted of dinner plates, Fiestaware canisters, platters, serving bowls, coffee mugs, assorted sizes dinner bowls, cups, tea sets, and more. During the 1940’s the Fiestaware line was on the high end of the retail spectrum and was associated with stature and fine dining, this led to an increase in demand and production.
The earlier Fiestaware canisters and pieces came in hues such as red, cobalt blue, light green, yellow, old ivory, turquoise, forest green, rose, chartreuse, gray, medium green, antique gold, and turf green. The Fiestaware line was discontinued in 1973 and took a 12-year hiatus.
Returning to the retail market in 1986, the Homer Laughlin Company reintroduced the Fiestaware line with a whole new array of colors. If you are looking for authentic Fiestaware Canisters and Carafes from the 1930’s and the earlier periods, you will need to check with auction houses and antique dealers.
