A lot of people complain of various symptoms that when they investigate, can’t come up with any reasonable explanations. This includes conditions such as dandruff, irritated red eyes, brittle hair and dry, itchy skin. They’ll try anti-dandruff shampoos, eye drops, moisturizers, anti-itching lotions and potions and come up entirely empty, finding that their symptoms continue to persist.
Wisdom sometimes comes in the form of a realization that the water coming from the shower is causing these issues … and more. Problems arising from ‘polluted’ water can also include aggravation of asthma and eczema. Now considering that people shower at least once, often twice a day, it’s not at all unfathomable that the water is causing their bodies to rebel. That’s where filtered showerheads come into play and in particular, hand-held ones for added convenience.
Hand-held filtered showerheads come with built in filtration systems, perfect for ease of use and ease of cartridge replacement, and because they are hand-held, they can be easily affixed and removed as required in situations such as moving house or for when renting.
Filtering out the nasties
The cartridges filter out a good deal of the undesirables in household water: chlorine, iron oxide (rusty water), hydrogen sulfide (responsible for the ‘rotten egg’ smell), plus regular dirt and odors. Depending on the source of your water, it can also contain other contaminants and the kind of filter you choose will depend on what’s in your water.
In terms of color and design, hand-held filtered showerheads are no less attractive or accommodating to décor than regular ones. One might think that they would be bulky due to the cartridges, but in fact they are no bigger or bulkier than the regular kind. Although the filters are available to be affixed to existing showerheads, the hand-held ones are particularly popular for a number of reasons.
Firstly, a more enjoyable shower experience results from being able to direct the water where it’s needed. Direct application can bring relief to muscular aches and pains, and is also far more effective at rinsing shampoo and conditioner from long hair.
Having to wash children in the shower in the absence of a bathtub can be a very messy event. Hand-held showerheads help to avoid water spraying all over the bathroom. Also, ease of cleaning the shower should never be overlooked as an important virtue!
The more basic models of hand-held filtered showerheads offer three adjustable spray settings and the more comprehensive ones offer a luxurious five settings. All, however, carry a filter cartridge that sits at the top of the nozzle to allow constant delivery of filtered water for health and comfort.
Installation is easy
Installing your hand-held showerhead is quite a simple process and the instructions will be found on the packaging. Be sure to turn off the water at the mains just in case something goes wrong! Changing the filter is even easier and is usually a matter of unscrewing the nozzle from the hose, removing the old cartridge and fitting it with the new one.
Aside from the improvements to the abovementioned health conditions, a filtered showerhead will also bring some other very welcome benefits. Hair becomes softer and more manageable, skin is softer and there is no odor to be noticed after showering. All of these are very welcome reasons indeed to switch to a hand-held filtered showerhead.
