Hand Troweling Concrete

Hand Troweling ConcreteIf you’re putting a concrete path, countertop, patio or some other landscaping feature around your home then at some point you’ll need to work on the surface of the concrete with a hand trowel. Despite the increase in the use of various stones, bricks and slabs in drives and pathways; concrete is still a popular option and beyond doubt the most durable material to use.

Cleaning Sandstone

Being a porous stone you need to be careful what you use as sandstone cleaner. Whether the sandstone has been used as a construction material in your home or if you have outdoor ornaments or even garden furniture made of sandstone, you really should clean it as little as possible; don’t forget that any staining or discoloring due to the natural weathering of a stone is often part of its beauty.

How to Build a Brick Wall

One of the most important steps when it comes to building a brick wall is the foundations; the foundations are everything and have to be sound and solid before you lay even one brick. You have to ensure that they will be able to take the weight of the wall otherwise it will crumble and fall no matter how well it has been built.

For a light simple garden brick wall the foundations need to be around 30cm deep providing the foundations are firm if not and you have to build on weak ground then going down around 45cm is better.

Formula for Cement Mix Made Easy

While there are many ready made brands of cement that comes in handy packets ranging in size depending on the particular project that is at hand, sometimes mixing your own is essential and while there is nothing particularly hard about mixing cement, it can take a little practise to get the right consistency.

Pouring a Concrete Slab

Concrete slabs are found virtually everywhere. They are widely used for house and commercial building foundations. Other applications include shed floors, patios, and the deck surrounding a backyard pool. Pouring a concrete slab is just one aspect of installing a slab.

Remember the phrase “It's not set in concrete?” Well, with a slab, many things are. Everything should be accounted for in advance. Any plumbing should be stubbed out in advance. Any electrical conduit should be set prior to pouring the slab.
