Toddler Bed Tips

Sometime between the ages of fifteen to thirty-six months a parent decides to move their child from their crib into a toddler bed. For many children a toddler bed helps to prepare them for a traditional twin size bed. Purchasing a toddler bed is a big step in parenthood; however, when shopping for a toddler bed there are many parents who are making all the wrong decisions.

As beautiful or trendy as a princess style or racecar style beds may be there are many parents who are not thinking about the safety of their child when purchasing these toddler bed styles. Since most toddler beds are only being used for a limited amount of time there really is not a big demand for many over the top and extravagant beds.

When a toddler first gets a new bed it is likely that they will realize that unlike their crib their bed is easy to get out of. Many children will be constantly climbing in and out of their toddler bed. For this reason a simple bed without any fancy protruding designs is encouraged.

The sleigh style bed may look adorable in a little girls room; however, many parents may not think it is so cute when their child bumps their head or knocks their tooth out by hitting the sleigh ends.

While many parents do not have a problem paying extra money for a beautiful toddler bed there are others who are more concerned with the price of a bed. Purchasing a cheap toddler bed is possible. Many low cost toddler beds can be purchased from a number of discount stores or department stores.

Although it is nice to save money it is important that parents do not compromise the safety of their child while doing so. A toddler bed, even those purchased at a discounted price, should be strong and sturdy. Parents are encouraged to check the weight limits on all toddler beds before making a final purchase.

Parents may also wish to purchase a toddler bed that is low to the ground to prevent injury should their child fall out. The majority of toddler beds come equipped with guardrails; however, if they do not parents are encouraged to purchased toddler bed guard rails. These guard rails are generally displayed right along side the toddler beds in most retail stores.

A toddler bed is a big step for many children and their parents. Purchasing a toddler bed should be an exciting experience; however, parents should use their instincts when purchasing one. To keep children safe toddler beds should be purchased new and regularly checked for flaws that may pose a danger.
